The MAX30100/30102 sensor uses two LEDs (red and infrared) and a photodetector to shine light through your skin (typically a finger or earlobe) and measure how much light is absorbed. This allows it to calculate:
Heart Rate – Based on the pulse waveform (changes in blood flow)
Oxygen Saturation (SpO?) – Based on the absorption ratio of red and infrared light
The data is digitized and transmitted via the I2C protocol, making it simple to interface with most microcontrollers.
